Douglas Farris, M.D.

Douglas Farris, M.D. is an experienced dermatologist who has been in private practice for over 25 years, and has a broad educational background. Dr. Farris grew up in the metroplex, graduating from Arlington High School. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in science with a major in biology from Baylor University, he worked in a research lab at the Texas Medical Center in Houston studying the nutritional content of maternal breast milk. He then went to Purdue University and received a Master of Science degree in nutrition, with a thesis studying the effects of different sources of dietary fiber on cholesterol metabolism. After finishing his studies at Purdue, Dr. Farris went to medical school at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Farris completed two consecutive three-year residency programs, becoming board certified in both. The first residency was in internal medicine at the University of Vermont, where he received an award for outstanding teaching resident. The second was in dermatology at New York Medical College, where he was able to see a very diverse patient population in New York City, learning how to diagnose skin diseases in skin of all colors, and seeing a very wide range of skin conditions both common and rare.

After finishing his residency training, Dr. Farris returned home to enter private practice in Arlington and then Hurst before meeting Dr. Hopkins and embracing the opportunity to join her Southlake practice to offer not only general and cosmetic dermatology, but other treatment options as well. Dr. Farris has a special interest in treating hair loss in both men and women, offering both standard and more aggressive treatment options for those who want it, including a genetic test called the Trichotest which can help predict which hair loss treatments are most likely to be effective in that person. More recently, Dr. Farris has become very interested in the field of functional medicine, which offers very personalized guidance to treat disease by optimizing health and longevity through testing to determine nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, environmental toxin exposures, and hidden low grade chronic infections that lead to inflammation, which is the underlying cause of most diseases and aging. Dr. Farris will be offering functional medicine testing and treatment for those who are interested.
